Keynote Speaker: Dr. Martin Culpepper, Waterloo East Graduate and MIT Professor
Dr. Martin Culpepper is widely respected and a leading authority in the field of precision engineering. His research focuses on the design, fabrication, and testing of high-performance machine systems that make, manipulate, or measure parts at length-scales and/or precision levels not previously possible or practical.
Culpepper’s courses at MIT challenge students in the rigorous design of machine elements based on engineering principles that truly embody the Mens et Manus ("mind and hand") MIT motto. He currently serves as MIT's "Maker Czar" and directs MIT's Project Manus Program, which has been tasked with upgrading and enhancing MIT's maker capabilities. This includes improving access for students, converting old spaces/equipment, introducing new technologies, creating new campus spaces, and reaching out to other schools for collaboration, resource provision, and consulting.
Culpepper is a recipient of the National Science Foundation Presidential Early Career Award (PECASE), two R&D 100 Awards, a TR100 award, and a Joel and Ruth Spira Teaching Award. He is also a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
